The beating of our heart supplies oxygen to the various parts of our body by pumping blood. The rate at which the heart does this is called the heart rate. Heart rates may vary from person to person and from activity to activity. The heart beats slowly when we are sleeping, while it beats faster when we are exercising, running, doing heavy labor, etc.
A slow heartbeat may not be an issue for some, but can be troublesome for many others. A slower heartbeat will mean that the heart may not be able to pump enough blood when required. This will cause breathlessness, a lack of stamina, dizziness, palpitations, etc. In severe cases, if the blood pressure falls too low, a person may faint.
This condition is known as bradycardia and may require a pacemaker for correction.
Hope this helps.
