Were there health records for Doodle in "The Scarlet Ibis"?

I think we can assume that there were some health records for Doodle’s physical disabilities because he sees a doctor when he is two. According to Brother, the doctor “said that with his weak heart this straining [Doodle is trying to crawl when placed on his stomach] would probably kill him.” Later in the story, a reference is made to the doctor saying that Doodle would never walk.

Doodle is delivered by Aunt Nicey, a midwife, and this indicates that accessibility to doctors may not have been available for Doodle to get much help with his disabilities. The story also takes place sometime around 1918 and WWI, so medical knowledge of helping children with birth defects is probably not widespread, especially in the rural setting in which the story takes place.

We do see that Doodle did have some medical care early in his life, however.
