What is an advantage of using technology in pharmacy?

There are multiple advantages to using technology in a pharmacological setting. To begin with, all information needed is right at our fingertips. Once patient information is accessed (which is done very quickly via name/date of birth/address) we can find out a plethora of information such as what medications are prescribed and by which doctor, frequency and duration of the medication, and dosage. Additionally, this technology allows us to discover if there are any drug interactions present, potentially saving lives. Many times people have multiple doctors, each prescribing different medications, so it is often the pharmacist that ends up discovering these dangerous medication combinations.

Technology also allows up-to-date access to the latest information on specific drug information. Pharmacists are given updates to the latest drug information such as side effects, interactions, etc. the minute the changes are made.

In addition to all of this, technology allows pharmacists and pharmacy assistants to serve customers in a quick and efficient manner.
